This time last year we shared our response to the Education Select Committee SEND Inquiry report. One of the issues highlighted in the report that particularly resonated with us was the lack of standardised training available for frontline SEND professionals, particularly in light of the significant changes in policies and procedures since the reforms.

Since then, we have been working hard to address this issue with the launch of our CPD accredited online training courses. We have been so pleased with the response so far; 88% of learners surveyed reported their overall experience of their training course as good or excellent, and 90% of learners felt that they would be able to apply the knowledge gained to their job role.

Why CPD?

The benefits of continued professional development (CPD) for both employees and employers are numerous. New team members benefit from structured on-the-job training as part of their induction process, and more experienced staff are able to reinforce and accredit their existing knowledge, whilst also plugging any gaps in skills or boosting their confidence. For a team as a whole, CPD ensures consistency in understanding and work practices, which is vital for maintaining high standards.

We also practice what we preach! Our team take part in monthly training and development sessions, which include workshops, discussion groups and guest speakers, to ensure that they continually develop their skills and knowledge. We have also recently initiated a new personal development process with our office team, so that we can work together on planning their next development steps.

Identifying areas for development

Alongside having robust and consistent onboarding training for new staff, it is important to ensure that teams are continually learning and developing. This involves recognising particular areas that individual members would benefit from additional training in. Having identified some specific topics that are key to ensuring an in-depth understanding of the EHCP assessment and planning process, we are introducing a range of Bitesize training courses, and have recently launched the first course in this range: Outcomes in EHC Plans.

We are continually developing our range of training courses and would love to hear about other training requirements that we could help with – contact us at with any queries or requests.
