Whilst it’s been another rollercoaster of a year for SEND, against a backdrop of even more turbulent national politics, we are ending the year on a more positive note! Here’s Enhance EHC’s top 10 SEND highlights and company achievements for 2019:

  1. With the hard work of our fabulous team of writers, trainers and office staff, we were able to support 26 Local Authorities with EHC plan writing and/or quality assurance of assessment and plan production processes throughout 2019. We are even more proud that many of our LA customers have been working with us since SEN Statements, and this year three of our customers have been with us for over 18 years!

  2. We launched our new Enhance Your Skills Online EHCP Training programmes, which are based on SEND legislation and our 23 years’ experience of both training writers and supporting LAs with SEND documents. On top of that, our training achieved accredited CPD Status with the CPD Standards Office!

  3. Despite the long-awaited Education Select Committee SEND Inquiry report setting out many challenges and failures since the SEND reforms, it was nevertheless reassuring to have official recognition of the problems and required changes that everyone working within SEND has been shouting about, making the possibility of swift action more hopeful.

  4. Continuing with our sharing good practice mission, 2019 saw the release of EHCP guidance specifically designed for educational settings. Our EHCP Good Practice Resource Pack for Schools has provided schools across the country with guidance on plan requirements and how to effectively contribute to the assessment and review process.

  5. It was our second time attending the SEND Law Conference in London. This year’s conference tackled a multitude of issues within the SEND system, but it was refreshing to gain a variety of perspectives on the problems, causes and, crucially, potential ways forward. We were particularly interested to hear about the challenges of the EHC assessment process from the Local Authority perspective, to ensure the support we offer our customers continues to be aligned to their current needs.

  6. In order to continue helping to improve consistency and quality of EHC plans across the country, Quality Assurance was a big focus for us in 2019: we extended our range of EHCP support services to incorporate Quality Assurance – offering independent monitoring and analysis of EHC plans, assessment reports and LA plan templates from a national perspective – and launched our range of self-assessment QA frameworks.

  7. We were particularly pleased with one of our large Quality Assurance commission projects of the year, which included supporting a Local Authority with the management of caseloads for the updating of plans following Annual Review. The customer said: “Please do say a massive thank you to all involved, it has been a pleasure working with you all […] your work has seen some real, measurable improvement to the quality of our EHC Plans.”

  8. We exhibited at the National SEND Conference for the second time. Once again, we heard some thought-provoking speakers and met a wide range of professionals working in SEND, many of whom discussed a variety of support needs with us – from SENCO EHCP training needs and requests from other professionals for guidance on contributing to the assessment process, to LAs in need of help to complete backlogs, train their staff and improve the quality of their plans. It was therefore great to be able to offer a service or product to help resolve many of these issues.

  9. It means so much to retain highly skilled and committed staff, and this year we celebrated many Enhance team long service awards: two of our writers joined the 10+ years club; we celebrated three of our writers making it to an incredible 15 years with the business; and an extra special long service recognition went to our Operations Manager, who reached a whopping 20 years with the company!

  10. We are super proud to announce the recipient of our annual charity contribution: East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH). This amazing charity support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. They were chuffed to receive £1,000 towards support and resources such as art and music therapy, nursing for children and young people, and counselling for their families.

We look forward to continuing to collaborate with SEND professionals and providing a range of high-quality EHCP support services and products in 2020!
